    Getting There

    Bus and Taxi

    From Quito, take a bus from Terminal Terrestre Quitumbe south towards Latacunga. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Cotopaxi National Park junction on the Pan-American Highway (E35), approximately 1.5 hours from Quito; the bus fare is about $2. From there, hire a local guide with a truck or taxi to enter the park. A taxi to the park entrance and attractions costs $8-$15. Be sure to specify your destination within the park, as the entrance is several miles from the main attractions.

    Driving

    From Quito, drive south on the Pan-American Highway (E35) for approximately 1.5-2 hours. Look for signs indicating the Cotopaxi National Park entrance near Machachi. The park's main southwest entrance is off the Pan-American Highway. The road from the highway to the park's control point is about 15-20 km on unpaved roads. While a 4x4 vehicle is recommended, a standard car can usually manage if driven slowly and carefully. There is no entrance fee to the park.

    Acclimatize to the altitude in Quito for a few days before visiting to avoid altitude sickness.
    Visit during the dry season (June to September) for the best weather and clear views of the volcano.
