Puente Zigzag, also known as Paseo de la Juventud, is a unique pedestrian bridge in Guayaquil, Ecuador, celebrated for its unusual zigzag design. Inaugurated on July 1, 2012, as part of Guayaquil's urban regeneration project, the bridge was constructed by the Consorcio Torres Veloz at a cost of approximately $2.6 million.Spanning 220 meters in length and 6 meters in width, the bridge crosses the Estero Salado, linking the Guayaquil University with the Parque Lineal, which sits opposite the Catholic University. Its zigzag form isn't just for show; it creates a dynamic visual experience and offers varied perspectives of the surrounding environment. Along the way, pedestrians can enjoy three garden areas, observation points, and eight small plazas distributed throughout the structure.The bridge's design incorporates curved metal roofs and patterned concrete flooring, adding to its modern aesthetic. More than just a means of crossing the estuary, Puente Zigzag serves as a social hub, a place for meetings, and a scenic overlook. It's a key part of the Guayarte project, enhancing the area's appeal with its vibrant atmosphere, bars, and restaurants. The bridge can support up to 8 tons of weight, ensuring safety for all who stroll across its unusual path.
