Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from the city of Macas, start by heading southeast on the E45 highway. Continue on E45 for about 20 kilometers until you reach the town of Morona. From Morona, take the road towards Upper Upano, which will lead you directly to the Upano River area. Make sure to follow the signs to 'Upano River' as you approach the final stretch. The last few kilometers may be unpaved, so a vehicle with good clearance is recommended.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Upano River using public transportation, begin your journey in Macas. Head to the main bus terminal and look for buses heading towards Morona. The fare is generally around $1-2. Once you arrive in Morona, you can find local minibusses or taxis that offer rides to Upper Upano. Negotiate the fare beforehand; it typically costs around $5-10 per person depending on the distance and number of passengers.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route or are traveling with a group, consider hiring a taxi from Macas. This option will be more expensive, with fares ranging from $30 to $50 for a one-way trip to the Upano River area. Ensure to agree on the fare before starting your journey.

• Walking

  Once you arrive at the Upano River area, if you wish to explore more, be prepared to walk along the riverbanks. There are several trails that lead to scenic viewpoints and secluded parts of the river. Always ensure to carry enough water and wear comfortable shoes.
