There is no better way to understand the geography of Luxor than from the air. From the balloon basket, the East and West Banks finally make sense: the temples along the river, the tombs hidden in the hills, the fields in between, and the desert stretching away to the horizon. We lifted off before sunrise and drifted for around an hour, watching the light change minute by minute. Our pilot pointed out landmarks and kept the basket steady, and the whole operation felt safe and well organised. The pickup was punctual, the briefing was clear, and the landing was gentle.
