Discover more about المياه شديدة الملوحة بسيوة

The Siwa Oasis is home to several salt lakes with exceptionally high salinity, creating a unique and therapeutic swimming experience. Situated in the Western Desert of Egypt, about 50 kilometers (31 mi) east of the Egypt–Libya border and 560 kilometers (350 mi) from Cairo, these lakes are a result of the area's geology and climate. The oasis lies in a natural depression, approximately 19 meters (62 ft) below sea level, which allows for the collection of underground water and rainwater. High evaporation rates in the arid climate lead to increased mineral concentration, resulting in the hypersaline conditions. The salt content in some of Siwa's lakes can reach up to 95%, far exceeding that of the Dead Sea. This extreme salinity allows visitors to float effortlessly on the surface. The water's high mineral content is also believed to offer various health benefits, including soothing skin conditions, relieving muscle aches, and alleviating sinus congestion. The lakes' vibrant turquoise hues, combined with the surrounding desert landscape, create a visually stunning and otherworldly experience. Several salt lakes can be found in Siwa, including Lake Zeitoun, Aghormy Lake, and Maraqi Lake (also known as Fatnas Lake). These lakes and smaller pools formed by mining operations offer unique settings for relaxation, photography, and wellness activities.
