Car
To reach Lake Basaka by car, start from the city of Adama (also known as Nazret), located approximately 60 km from the lake. Take the Adama-Mojo Road (A1) heading towards Mojo. After about 20 km, take the exit towards the Bole-Bole Road. Continue on this road for approximately 30 km until you reach the junction for Lake Basaka. Turn right and follow the signs towards Lake Basaka. The road may become narrower, so drive carefully. The total drive takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from Adama to the town of Mojo. Buses frequently depart from the Adama bus station and cost around 20-30 ETB. Once in Mojo, look for a minibus or 'bajaj' (three-wheeler) that can take you closer to Lake Basaka. The fare for this ride will typically be about 50-100 ETB. Make sure to communicate your destination clearly, as some drivers may not be familiar with Lake Basaka specifically. The entire trip using public transport may take around 2.5 to 3 hours.
Bicycle
For the adventurous traveler, biking to Lake Basaka is an option if you're starting from Adama. The round trip is approximately 120 km. Rent a bicycle in Adama and head towards Mojo via the Adama-Mojo Road (A1). After reaching the junction for Lake Basaka, follow the signs to the lake. Be prepared for a challenging ride, with some hilly sections. Ensure to carry plenty of water and snacks, as there are limited stops along the route. The trip could take a whole day, so plan accordingly.
