Car
If you are driving from Mekelle, head out of the city on the main road towards the south. After approximately 40 km, you will reach the town of Wukro. From Wukro, continue on the road towards Era for about 30 km. Follow the signs towards Desa'a Forest Reserve. Once you arrive in Era, look for the coordinates PQ2W+MC8, which will lead you to the entrance of the reserve. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for rough terrain as the last stretch may be unpaved.
Public Transportation
To reach Desa'a Forest Reserve using public transport, take a bus or minibus from Mekelle to Wukro. Once in Wukro, you can find local transport options like tuk-tuks or shared taxis that can take you to Era. Inform the driver that you want to go to the Desa'a Forest Reserve. The fare from Wukro to Era should be around 20-30 Ethiopian Birr. Once you arrive in Era, use the coordinates PQ2W+MC8 to locate the entrance of the reserve.
Hiking
For adventurous travelers, consider hiking to the reserve from Era. This route is recommended for experienced hikers. Start in Era and follow the paths leading into the forest. Ensure you have a good map or a local guide as the trails may not be well-marked. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks for the hike, and inform someone about your hiking plans for safety.
