Discover more about Múlafossur Waterfall

Múlafossur Waterfall is an iconic natural wonder in the Faroe Islands, drawing visitors with its dramatic beauty and serene setting. Located near the village of Gásadalur on the island of Vágar, the waterfall plunges approximately 30 meters (around 100 feet) directly into the Atlantic Ocean. The picturesque village of Gásadalur, with its small population, sits at the edge of the cliff, providing a stunning backdrop to the cascading water. Until 2004, Gásadalur was one of the most isolated settlements in the Faroe Islands, accessible only by boat, helicopter, or a challenging hike over the mountains. The construction of the Gásadalstunnilin tunnel in 2004 improved accessibility, making it easier for tourists to visit this remote and scenic location. The name 'Múlafossur' translates to 'Promontory waterfall'. The waterfall is fed by a small river and descends 60 meters. The surrounding landscape features steep, green cliffs, enhancing the visual appeal. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views and photographic opportunities from a designated viewpoint near the village. The waterfall is easily accessible from a parking area with a short, well-marked path leading to the viewing point. During windy conditions, the water sometimes rises into the air, adding to the dramatic spectacle.
