Discover more about Múlafossur Waterfall

Múlafossur Waterfall is more than just a picturesque scene; it's an embodiment of the Faroe Islands' raw and untamed beauty. Situated in the isolated village of Gásadalur, the waterfall offers a mesmerizing view of water cascading into the ocean, set against a backdrop of vibrant green landscapes and rugged cliffs. Gásadalur itself was once one of the most isolated villages in the Faroes, only connected to the rest of Vágar Island by a tunnel in 2004. Before then, residents had to hike over a steep mountain pass or travel by boat to reach other settlements. This isolation has helped preserve the village's tranquility and unique character. The name Gásadalur translates to "Goose Valley," possibly derived from the wild geese that frequent the area. Today, visitors can easily access Múlafossur via the tunnel and a short walk from the village. The main lookout point, just a few minutes' walk from the village, provides breathtaking views of the waterfall, the village, and the nearby island of Mykines. The contrasts between the cliffs, the green landscape, and the cascading water create a paradise for photographers and nature enthusiasts. Experiencing Múlafossur is particularly enchanting during sunrise or sunset when the golden light casts a magical hue over the landscape. Even on windy days, the waterfall presents a unique spectacle as the water rises into the air before cascading into the ocean.
