Continue east to reach the park on your left. The walk is approximately 15 minutes. No costs are involved.

Known locally as "Ruttopuisto" or Plague Park, it carries a unique history as the former cemetery for the Old Church (Vanha kirkko).The park's origins date back to the 17th century, with the grounds initially serving as a cemetery in 1640 for the Ulrika Eleonora Church. In 1710, a devastating plague outbreak led to thousands of victims being buried here, giving the park its somber nickname. The Old Church, designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, was completed in 1826 and became a prominent landmark. By the mid-19th century, the cemetery reached capacity, and the Hietaniemi Cemetery was established. The last burial in Old Church Park took place in 1829, and the area was gradually transformed into a public park in the 1880s.Today, Old Church Park is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Visitors can stroll along winding paths shaded by mature trees, relax on benches, and appreciate the historical ambiance.
