Smolna
Designed by Carl Engel and opened in 1822, it was built to be the residence of the commander of the Finnish Guards' Rifles.
Kappeli
Opened in 1867, Kappeli Café is known not only for its history, but also as a meeting place for poets, writers and artists, especially in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Revealed in 1908, it symbolises Helsinki rising from the sea.
Sofiankatu
When Helsinki was moved to its present location in 1640, to gain better access to the sea, this was one of the streets created.
Designed and built between 1812 and 1852, it's the best known and most photographed feature of Helsinki.
Johan Ludvig Runeberg Statue
Writing exclusively in Swedish. he is considered a national poet of Finland. His statue was unveiled in front of 20,000 people on May 6, 1885, eight years after his death.
Designed by Nicholas Benois and opened in 1866, its original external façade was replaced in 1935.
The Old Church of Helsinki (consecrated 1826), designed by Carl Engel, was meant originally to be a temporary building. At this location, we'll conduct some above-ground archaeology.
