Discover more about Porvoon museo, Holmin talo

Porvoon Museo, located in the historic Holm House (Holmin talo), offers visitors a captivating journey into the life of a wealthy 18th-century merchant in Porvoo. Constructed after the Great Fire of Porvoo in 1760, the house showcases the lifestyle and home of Johan Holm the Elder and his family. The two-story building features rooms furnished in the style of the period, including a hall, salon (förmaaki), gentleman's room, bedroom, and kitchen chamber. The displays incorporate scents and sounds to enhance the immersive experience, and costumed dolls add to the atmosphere. Originally, the Holm House had a mansard roof and an entrance from the courtyard. Business was conducted on the lower floor, while the family resided upstairs. In the 19th century, bakers and Swiss confectioners operated in the building, leading to the opening of a new door on the market side. In addition to Holm House, the museum complex includes two other smaller residential buildings and several outbuildings. The Porvoo Museum also includes the Old Town Hall, which features exhibits on Porvoo's history and the works of artists Albert Edelfelt and Ville Vallgren.
