Discover more about Härkäahonkoski Waterfall

Härkäahonkoski Waterfall offers a refreshing encounter with the Finnish wilderness. Situated on the Kuonanjoki River in Haapajärvi, this tiered waterfall presents a picturesque scene with its cascading waters and surrounding natural beauty. The waterfall has a total drop of approximately 4 meters, making it one of the more impressive sights in the Haapajärvi area. The waterfall begins just under a wooden bridge, adding a touch of human element to the natural landscape. Upstream from the falls, the river flows as rapids for about 50 meters, creating a lively rush of whitewater as it approaches the main drop. The primary drop measures around 3 meters, followed by a smaller, secondary drop of 1 to 2 meters. The Kuonanjoki River originates from Kuonanjärvi lake, roughly 10 kilometers east of the falls. Near the Haittaperä dam, the river divides into two channels: the original stream bed, which carries minimal water into Haapajärvi lake, and an artificial channel created in the 1970s. This artificial channel directs water through Härkäahonkoski Waterfall and into the Hautaperä artificial lake, which powers the Haapajärvi hydroelectric plant. Visitors can appreciate the tranquil environment and the invigorating sounds of the flowing water. It's an ideal spot for a brief photo stop or a more extended nature break.
