Perched atop the scenic Vehoniemi ridge, the Vehoniemi Observation Tower is a must-visit destination in Kangasala, Finland. The tower offers stunning views of the Finnish Lakeland. From the top, you can see Lake Roine and the cultural landscape of Saarikylät to the southwest, the Valkeakoski factories in the distance, Heposelkä on Lake Längelmävesi to the northeast, and the village of Raiku to the southeast. The first observation tower was built on this site in 1892 by A.W. Liljestrand. The current tower was constructed in 1927 and is maintained by Metsähallitus. The surrounding forest is a protected area, and a guided nature trail begins near the parking area. Historically, the Vehoniemi ridge has been a popular tourist spot. Following the construction of the 1927 tower, a summer restaurant and hotel operated until 1980. Today, the Vehoniemi Automobile Museum sits nearby, offering visitors a chance to explore Finnish automotive history. The museum also has a café serving traditional Finnish doughnuts and locally made ice cream.
