Discover more about Chateau de Myrat

Located in the heart of Barsac, about 40km southeast of Bordeaux, Château de Myrat is a prestigious winery known for its sweet white wines. Classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Classification of Sauternes and Barsac, the estate boasts a rich history dating back to the 1700s. The Demirat family, from whom the château derives its name, gained fame for the estate in the early 1800s. The de Pontac family, also founders of Château Haut Brion, purchased Château de Myrat in 1937. Today, sisters Slanie and Elisabeth de Pontac manage the estate, continuing a family tradition that spans over 400 years. The 22-hectare vineyard is planted with 88% Sémillon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc, and 4% Muscadelle grapes. Visitors can explore the vineyards, old cellars, and a collection of old presses, while learning about the winemaking process. The estate combines tradition and modernity, offering a unique insight into the production of exceptional Sauternes wines. Château de Myrat experienced a renaissance after extensive replanting in 1988. The vineyards are situated on a terroir of clay and limestone, near other notable châteaux like Climens and Coutet. The grapes are hand-harvested with multiple passes through the vineyard to select only the most botrytis-affected bunches. After pressing, the wines are fermented in oak barrels for up to 22 months.
