MÉCA: Bordeaux's Architectural Statement

MÉCA, an acronym for Maison de l'Économie Créative et de la Culture en Aquitaine, is more than just a building; it's a statement. Designed by the internationally acclaimed Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) in collaboration with Freaks Architecture, this cultural center redefines Bordeaux's skyline and solidifies its position as a hub for creativity and innovation. Completed in 2019, MÉCA brings together three regional arts agencies: FRAC (Fonds Régional d'Art Contemporain) for visual arts, OARA (Office Artistique de la Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine) for performing arts, and ALCA (Agence Livre, Cinéma & Audiovisuel) for literature and cinema. By uniting these institutions under one roof, MÉCA fosters collaboration, cross-disciplinary exchange, and a vibrant cultural ecosystem.
