Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune: A Storied Castle with Eclectic Collections

The Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune, a 14th-century fortress, stands as one of the architectural jewels of the Côte d'Or. Originally built in 1340 for Duke Eudes IV of Burgundy, the castle was dismantled in 1478 and later restored in the 17th century. Today, it is home to a remarkable array of collections assembled by Michel Pont, a passionate collector who purchased the château in 1972. The château's grounds showcase over 100 fighter planes and helicopters, while inside, visitors can explore 30 Abarth racing car prototypes and over 200 motorcycle models dating from 1903 to 1960. The collections also include fire trucks, winemaking equipment, straddle tractors, and over 7,000 scale models. The Petit Château, built in 1671, houses a tasting cellar and restaurant. The self-guided tour allows visitors to explore the museums and grounds at their own pace, delving into the castle's automotive and aeronautical history.
