Statue of Joan of Arc: A Gilded Tribute in Paris

The Statue of Joan of Arc, an equestrian sculpture in gilded bronze, graces the Place des Pyramides in Paris. The statue's location is significant, as it stands near the spot where Joan of Arc was wounded during her attempt to liberate Paris in 1429. Interestingly, the statue you see today is not the original. In 1898, during metro construction, Frémiet secretly replaced it with a modified version, making subtle changes to the horse and Joan's figure. Today, the Statue of Joan of Arc remains a powerful symbol, drawing visitors and serving as a site for annual ceremonies. It was classified as a historical monument on March 31, 1992. The statue is a short walk from the Louvre Museum and the Tuileries Garden.
