Cour du Commerce Saint-André: A Step Back in Time

Originally established in 1735, the Cour du Commerce Saint-André was built upon the site of King Philippe Auguste's 12th-century defensive walls. Remnants of one of the wall's towers can still be seen today. In the 18th century, this charming street became a meeting place for intellectuals and revolutionaries. Today, the Cour du Commerce Saint-André invites visitors to explore its unique blend of architectural elements. The main section is open to the air, while a glass roof shelters the entrance on Rue Saint-André-des-Arts. The original cobblestones evoke a sense of timeless charm. The passage is home to Le Procope, the oldest café in Paris, dating back to 1686, as well as trendy shops and restaurants. The Cour du Commerce Saint-André also has a darker history.
