Walking
If you are starting from the Old Port area of La Rochelle, head towards the harbor promenade (Quai Louis Prunier). Walk along the waterfront and enjoy the beautiful views of the boats. Continue walking straight until you reach the end of the promenade, where you will see the large stone tower of La Rochelle, known as the Tour de la Lanterne, to your left. From here, take the path that leads to Rue de l'Armide, which is located directly behind the Tour de la Lanterne. You will see signs pointing to St. Nicholas Tower. Follow Rue de l'Armide straight ahead, and you will arrive at St. Nicholas Tower shortly after.
Public Transport (Bus)
If you are closer to the city center, you can take the local bus. Look for the bus stop labeled 'Place de Verdun.' From there, board line 1 or 2 towards 'La Genette' or 'Les Minimes.' Get off at the stop called 'Porte de la Grosse Horloge.' Once you exit the bus, walk towards the old city walls, and you will see St. Nicholas Tower directly ahead. It is a short 5-minute walk from the bus stop.
Bicycle
For those who prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the many bike-sharing stations around La Rochelle. Start from the central bike station near the Old Port. Head towards the avenue de la République and take it towards the east. Follow the bike lanes until you reach Rue de l'Armide. Turn left on Rue de l'Armide, and you will find St. Nicholas Tower on your right after a short ride.
Taxi or Ride-sharing
If you prefer not to walk or use public transport, you can easily hail a taxi or use a ride-sharing app like Uber. Simply enter 'Rue de l'Armide, 17000 La Rochelle' as your destination. The driver will take you directly to St. Nicholas Tower. It's a convenient option, especially if you're traveling with luggage or in a group.
