Historically, in the 18th century, a pyramid of white stones served this purpose, followed by plans for a lavish lighthouse in 1759, which were ultimately abandoned due to high costs.In the 19th century, Pointe des Onglous thrived as a hub for steam-powered boats that towed vessels across the lagoon to Sète. Today, it's a place where visitors can walk to the lighthouse, admire the panoramic views, and observe the operations of a sailing school and local fishermen. The area is also a Natura 2000 site, offering opportunities for birdwatching and exploring the nearby Bagnas Nature Reserve.
