Discover more about Puy du Fou

Puy du Fou is a unique historical theme park located in the Pays de la Loire region of France, near the village of Les Epesses. Unlike traditional amusement parks, Puy du Fou does not feature roller coasters or adrenaline rides. Instead, it immerses visitors in meticulously staged historical shows and recreated period villages, offering an engaging and educational experience for all ages. The park was founded by Philippe de Villiers, who, in 1977, discovered the ruins of an old Renaissance castle. Inspired to bring history to life, he created the Cinéscénie show in 1978, a nighttime spectacle involving hundreds of local volunteers. This initial success led to the development of the Grand Parc, featuring various historical settings and theatrical performances. Puy du Fou is divided into several distinct areas, each representing a different period in history. Visitors can explore reconstructed villages such as the medieval city (La Cité Médiévale) and a charming early 20th-century village (Le Bourg 1900). These villages feature costumed artisans, traditional crafts, and cuisine, providing an authentic glimpse into the past. The park's main draw is its spectacular live shows, which blend historical events with impressive special effects, stunts, and elaborate choreography. Some of the most popular shows include: * **Cinéscénie:** The park's flagship nighttime show, featuring over 2,000 actors on a 23-hectare stage, depicting French history from the Middle Ages to World War II. * **Le Signe du Triomphe:** A Roman amphitheater experience with gladiatorial battles and chariot races. * **Les Vikings:** A recreation of a Viking attack on a 1,000-year-old fortress. * **Le Secret de la Lance:** A medieval tale of a young shepherdess defending her castle with a magical lance. * **Le Dernier Panache:** The story of a French naval officer during the American Revolution, performed in a rotating theater. Puy du Fou has received numerous international awards, including being named the world's best theme park multiple times. It attracts over 2 million visitors each year, making it one of the most popular attractions in France. The park has also expanded internationally, with Puy du Fou España in Toledo, Spain, and plans for a Puy du Fou UK in Oxfordshire.
