Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From the Le Mans city center, the T2 tram line is a convenient option. Take the T2 tram from the Comtes du Maine – Office du Tourisme stop towards Espal. Get off at the Espal-Arche de la Nature stop, which is a few minutes' walk from the Water House. A single tram ticket costs around €1.60 [N/A].

  • Walking

    From the Espal-Arche de la Nature tram stop, follow the signs towards the Arche de la Nature. The Water House is located within the park, a short walk from the tram stop. The path is well-marked and easy to navigate. There are no costs involved for walking.

  • Driving

    From Le Mans, follow the signs for Arche de la Nature. Several parking lots are available around the perimeter of the park. From the parking area, follow the signs to the Water House. Parking is free. Note that traffic is not allowed for motor vehicles inside the park.

Located within the vast Arche de la Nature park near Le Mans, the Water House (Maison de l'Eau) offers an engaging exploration of water and its significance. A visit to the former water treatment plant reveals the history of water management and the evolution of water treatment processes. The plant, which began operation in 1906, aimed to distribute 20,000 cubic meters of water daily to a population of 65,000. Interactive exhibits within the Water House explore the water cycle and the importance of water as an energy source. The building itself gained recognition as a historic monument in March 2024. The park offers various activities, including walking trails, cycling routes, and horse-drawn carriage rides, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the natural surroundings. The Water House is one of three themed houses in the park, the others being the Forest House and the Prairie House. Note that the hydraulic building is undergoing renovations and will not be accessible from June 2024 to June 2025.
