Parc de l'Evêché: A Serene Oasis in Amiens

Parc de l'Evêché, a public garden bordering the north side of the Amiens Cathedral, provides a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city. Its origins trace back to the medieval period when it served as the private gardens of the Bishop's Palace. Over the centuries, the park has evolved, reflecting changing tastes and influences, with significant renovations in the 19th century transforming it into a public space blending English and French garden styles. Today, visitors are greeted by a stunning array of flora, including mature trees, some centuries old, that provide ample shade. The meticulously maintained flowerbeds burst with color throughout the growing season, and the rose garden showcases dozens of varieties from late spring through autumn. Benches are strategically placed throughout the park, inviting visitors to pause and absorb the calm atmosphere. The park also features a children's play area. The park connects the Saint-Michel square to the Notre-Dame d'Amiens cathedral and the Saint-Leu district via a footbridge.
