Château de Bagnolet: A Cognac Estate with Hennessy Heritage
Explore Château de Bagnolet, a historic Cognac estate since 1841. Colonial architecture, English gardens, and Hennessy heritage await.
Château de Bagnolet, a picturesque estate constructed in 1810 along the Charente River, is deeply entwined with the legacy of Cognac. Located just a few kilometers from the city of Cognac, the château has been under the ownership of Maison Hennessy since 1841. Today, Hennessy uses the Château to host VIP clients and special events. The Château de Bagnolet was originally built by the Augier family on land that was royal property until the French Revolution. In 1841, Irène d'Anthès-Hennessy, the wife of Auguste Hennessy, fell in love with the property. The architecture evokes the colonial homes of Louisiana, featuring a square central pavilion flanked by smaller pavilions. Its white walls stand out against the surrounding greenery. The estate includes an English-style park that slopes gently down to the river. Redesigned in 1910, the park features winding paths, picturesque rocks, topiary, and flowerbeds. A winter garden houses collections of citrus trees, hibiscus, and bougainvillea. Visitors can also find an arboretum, a pergola covered with roses and wisteria, and small ornamental structures. The park embodies the art of strolling, inviting visitors to wander and admire the scenery. Throughout the 19th century, the Château de Bagnolet became a symbol of refined living. Auguste Hennessy hosted hunting parties, receptions, and concerts, welcoming international clients. Today, Château de Bagnolet continues to serve as a distinguished emblem of Hennessy's heritage and commitment to the art of Cognac.
