Discover more about Château de Crazannes

Nestled in the Charente-Maritime region of France, the Château de Crazannes is a captivating historical site dating back to 1360. Built on the site of a former feudal castle from the 11th century, remnants of which, like the chapel and donjon, are still visible, the château has evolved through the centuries. It is famously known as the 'Castle of Puss in Boots' because Jules Gouffier, Count of Caravaz, who owned the castle in the 17th century, inspired Charles Perrault's character, the Marquis de Carabas. The château's architecture showcases a blend of medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque styles, reflecting the different periods of its history. The north facade, dating from the early 16th century, features flamboyant Gothic sculptures. Inside, visitors can explore furnished rooms, including a kitchen, salon, banquet hall, library, and guard room. The estate also features a museum of ancient crafts. Today, the Château de Crazannes is a popular destination, offering guided tours in multiple languages and hosting cultural events. The surrounding parkland spans eight hectares and includes a Romanesque chapel, a dovecote, and dry and wet moats. It is also a venue for weddings and seminars and offers guest accommodations.
