Port de Dinan: A Picturesque Marina Steeped in History

The Port de Dinan, located in Lanvallay along the Rance River, boasts a captivating history, initially forming part of the estate belonging to the Lords of Lanvallay. From the 11th century, the port thrived as a commercial center, fostering trade with Northern Europe, Spain, and the Americas. Linen and hemp cloth, produced in Dinan, were shipped across Europe. Today, the port serves primarily as a marina, welcoming boats up to 25 meters in length. Visitors can stroll along the quays, explore souvenir shops, and enjoy the numerous restaurants, crêperies, and bars. The port offers a variety of activities, including bike rentals, canoe and kayak excursions, and boat trips. The Dinan green belt, an 11 km walk, provides nature lovers with a scenic route through bucolic landscapes and the historic village of Léhon. The port seamlessly connects to Dinan's historic citadel via three steep, cobbled lanes: Rue Haute-Voie, Rue du Petit-Fort, and Rue du Jerzual. These lanes are lined with medieval houses, many of which are designated as Historical Monuments, adding to the area's charm. Rue du Jerzual, in particular, is known for its art galleries, antique shops, and restaurants. While exploring the port, visitors can discover attractions like the Maison d'Artiste de la Grande Vigne, the former home of painter Yvonne Jean-Haffen, now an in-situ museum.
