Discover more about Tomi Ungerer Museum-International Illustration Centre

The Tomi Ungerer Museum, also known as the International Illustration Centre, is located in Strasbourg, France, and is dedicated to the work of Tomi Ungerer, a famous illustrator and cartoonist born in Strasbourg in 1931. Opened in November 2007, the museum is housed in the Villa Greiner, a spacious villa built in 1884. The museum holds a collection of approximately 14,000 drawings donated by Ungerer to his hometown, along with 1,500 toys from his personal collection. This unique collection has been enriched by over 2,000 works by other French and international illustrators. The museum showcases Ungerer's multifaceted career, including his work in children's books, advertising, and satirical cartoons. The ground floor is dedicated to Ungerer's children's book illustrations, while the first floor features his political caricatures and satirical cartoons. The basement, which is not accessible to children, displays his erotic and semi-pornographic drawings. Due to the light-sensitive nature of the paper-based collections, the museum rotates its presentations to ensure optimal conservation.
