Discover more about Passerelle Himalayenne du Drac

The Passerelle Himalayenne du Drac, a breathtaking Himalayan-style footbridge, spans 220 meters across the Drac River, suspended between 45 and 85 meters above the water, depending on the water level. Since its inauguration in August 2007, and official opening in June 2008, this bridge has become a major attraction in the Isère department, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Originally built to improve access between the Trièves and Matheysine areas, the bridge quickly transformed into a popular tourist destination. It forms a key part of the 12.5 km hiking loop around the Lac de Monteynard-Avignonet, offering hikers and mountain bikers unparalleled views of the turquoise lake and surrounding mountain scenery. The bridge design borrows from traditional Himalayan suspension bridges, providing a unique and somewhat thrilling experience as it sways gently with each step. Visitors can access the bridge from either Mayres-Savel or Treffort. From Mayres-Savel, the bridge is a 3 km hike from the beach parking area. From Treffort, a longer trek is required, or a boat trip on La Mira can shorten the distance. Crossing the bridge is free, but parking fees apply during the summer season. The bridge is open year-round, weather permitting, but can be very crowded in the summer, especially during the Trail des Passerelles event in July.
