Discover more about Grand Trianon

The Grand Trianon, also known as the Marble Trianon, stands as an oasis of sophistication within the Palace of Versailles complex. Commissioned by King Louis XIV and designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart in 1687, it served as a private retreat from the rigid court etiquette of Versailles. The palace provided a space for intimate gatherings and relaxation with family and close friends. The architecture, influenced by Italian styles, features a single story, a courtyard, and gardens. A colonnaded gallery, the Peristyle, connects the wings and offers views of both the courtyard and gardens. The pink marble facade gives the palace its distinctive name and elegant appearance. Inside, the Grand Trianon boasts lavishly decorated chambers, including the Mirror Room, where Louis XIV held council. The apartments are adorned with period furniture, porcelain, and paintings, reflecting the luxury of the era. Over the years, the Grand Trianon has been used by various monarchs and even Napoleon, each leaving their mark on its décor and history. The surrounding gardens, once filled with thousands of potted flowers, continue to be a highlight, offering a colorful and fragrant experience. Today, visitors can explore the palace and gardens, immersing themselves in the history and beauty of this royal retreat.
