Car
If you are traveling by car, begin your journey from the main town of Maupiti. Drive towards the eastern part of the island along the main road, following signs to the local beach area. The road is generally well-maintained but can be narrow in some parts. After approximately 10 minutes, you will reach the parking area near the trailhead for Mt. Teurafaatiu. Parking may be limited, so arrive early (no fees for parking). From here, you can begin your hike to the summit.
Public Transportation
Using public transportation, take a local bus or shuttle service from the main town of Maupiti towards the beach area. Buses usually run at regular intervals, and the fare is around 300 CFP per person. Inform the driver of your destination, and they will drop you off near the trailhead for Mt. Teurafaatiu. After disembarking, walk the short distance to the parking area where the hiking trail begins.
Hiking
Once you reach the trailhead, prepare for a moderately challenging hike. The trail is well-marked, but bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and sturdy hiking shoes. The hike to the summit can take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your fitness level. Be mindful of your surroundings and take breaks as needed to enjoy the stunning views along the way.
