Taxi
From Vaitape, the main town in Bora Bora, taxis are readily available. Agree on a fare with the driver before starting your journey. A taxi ride to a trailhead near Matira Beach, a common starting point for Popoti hikes, will cost approximately 1,500-2,500 XPF (13-22 USD), depending on the exact location and time of day. Note that fares increase after 7 PM.
Car/Scooter Rental
Renting a car or scooter provides flexibility in reaching the Popoti trailhead. Several rental agencies operate in Vaitape, with daily rates ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 XPF (45-90 USD) for a car and 3,000 to 6,000 XPF (27-54 USD) for a scooter. Parking is generally available near Matira Beach, but it can be limited during peak season. From Vaitape, follow the main circle island road south towards Matira Beach. The trailhead is located near the transmission towers.
Public Transport
Le Truck, the local public transport, offers an affordable way to reach the vicinity of the Popoti trailhead. However, service can be irregular. Check the schedule at the Vaitape quayside. A single ride costs around 200-300 XPF (2-3 USD). From the nearest Le Truck stop, you may need to walk a considerable distance to reach the trailhead.
