Pointe Vénus: Where History Meets the Sea
Discover Tahiti's largest valley: a volcanic wonderland with lush landscapes, rich history, and cascading waterfalls.
Vallée de Papenoo, or Papenoo Valley, is the largest of Tahiti's valleys, carved from the collapsed crater of the Tahiti Nui volcano. Once known as the home of Tahitian chieftains and 10,000 warriors, it's now a haven for nature lovers, hikers, and those seeking to explore Tahiti's wild interior.
Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Public Transport
To reach Vallee de Papenoo via public transport, begin in Papeete and head to the main bus terminal, Gare Routière. Look for the bus route to Hitiaa O Te Ra, often labeled 'Papeete to Papenoo'. Buses typically depart every 30 minutes. The fare is approximately 300-500 CFP Francs. Upon arriving in Hitiaa O Te Ra, you may need to walk or hire a taxi to the entrance of Vallee de Papenoo, as public transport doesn't directly access the valley. The hike from the bus stop is about 5 kilometers and can take 1.5 to 2 hours.
Taxi
For a direct route, taxis are available from Papeete to Vallee de Papenoo. Taxis can be found throughout the city, or your hotel can arrange one. The fare typically ranges from 4,000 to 6,000 CFP Francs, depending on traffic and the exact drop-off point.
