Discover more about Batumi Botanical Garden

The Batumi Botanical Garden, established in 1912 by the prominent botanist and geographer Andrey Krasnov, is a sprawling sanctuary of diverse flora, located approximately 9 km from the center of Batumi near Green Cape. The garden occupies 108.7 hectares along the Black Sea coast, featuring a wide array of plants from nine different phyto-geographic regions. Visitors can explore various sections showcasing plants from East Asia, the Himalayas, North America, Mexico, South America, Australia, New Zealand, the Mediterranean, and the Transcaucasus. The garden's collection includes approximately 1,800 species of woody plants and 5,000 species of herbaceous plants. The garden's history dates back to the late 19th century when the area was primarily covered by local trees like beech, oak, and chestnut. Andrey Krasnov recognized the area's potential for subtropical plants and initiated the garden's creation. Over the years, the garden expanded, becoming a significant center for agricultural and biological research. Today, the Batumi Botanical Garden attracts tourists with its unique plant collections, panoramic sea views, and peaceful atmosphere. It serves as both a recreational space and a center for spreading botanical knowledge, maintaining connections with botanical gardens and research institutions worldwide.
