Batumi Piazza Square: A Taste of Italy in Georgia

Batumi's Piazza Square, inaugurated in 2010, stands as a captivating blend of Italian architectural inspiration and Georgian artistry. Designed by architect Vazha Orbeladze, the square draws heavily from Venetian and Florentine aesthetics, reminiscent of St. Mark's Square and Piazza della Signoria. This creates a unique European atmosphere in the heart of Batumi. The square is adorned with notable features, including stained-glass windows crafted by Estonian artist Dolores Hoffman and a remarkable marble mosaic designed by Georgian artist Natali Amirejibi de Pita. The mosaic, considered one of the largest of its kind in Europe, spans the square's center with a marine theme, comprising over 88 million individual pieces. The clock tower, styled after the bell tower of San Marco, adds to the square's charm, with mechanical figures emerging to perform a show. Piazza Square serves as a vibrant hub for cultural events, live music, and entertainment, hosting concerts by world-renowned artists. Surrounded by cafes, restaurants, and hotels, it offers a blend of culinary delights and accommodation options. The square is particularly enchanting in the evening, when decorative lighting enhances its cozy atmosphere.
