Its design has been likened to a cave entrance with a staircase, evoking imagery from science fiction films.Founded by the renowned Georgian archaeologist Rostom Abramishvili, the museum once housed a rich collection of artifacts discovered during archaeological excavations in Tbilisi. These collections spanned from the 5th century BC to the feudal era, showcasing 6,000 years of continuous settlement in the region. Notable items included the world's earliest samples of tinned bronze objects and inventory from the royal burials of Treli. The museum's collection is now housed in the National Museum of Georgia.While the museum is currently non-operational and closed to the public, its architectural significance continues to draw visitors. The building's exterior can be appreciated as a unique example of Soviet design, and its hilltop location offers panoramic views of Tbilisi.
