Overview
Located 8 km from the village of Gurgeniani, Ninoskhevi Waterfall is a highlight of the Lagodekhi Protected Areas, Georgia's oldest national park. The waterfall itself plunges from a height of 40 meters, creating a mesmerizing spectacle as the Ninoskhevi River tumbles down the rocks. The journey to the waterfall is an adventure in itself. The trail winds through a diverse landscape, including hornbeam-beech forests that are especially vibrant in the autumn. Hikers often need to cross the river several times, particularly during the spring when water levels are higher, so appropriate footwear is essential. The 8-kilometer hike to the falls climbs 500 meters and typically takes 4-6 hours round trip. The Lagodekhi Protected Areas are known for their rich biodiversity. Along the trail, you can spot rare plant species such as Lagodekhi gentian, Lagodekhi snowdrop, chestnut, and Georgian oak. If you're lucky, you might even encounter wildlife like deer or wild boar. While the natural beauty is undeniable, the beginning of the trail can sometimes be marred by litter left by locals. Visitors are encouraged to bring a small trash bag to help clean up and set a positive example. For those seeking further exploration, the nearby Rocho Waterfall and the challenging Black Rocks Lake trail offer additional adventures.
