Car
If you're in Khevsureti and have a car, head east on the main road towards the village of Shatili. After approximately 10 km, you will reach the village of Biso. From Biso, follow the dirt road that leads towards the Kistani Fortress. The fortress is located at coordinates 42.5640225 latitude and 45.087469 longitude. Make sure to have a GPS or a map application on your phone, as the roads can be rugged and may not be clearly marked. The drive from Biso to the fortress will take about 15-20 minutes.
Public Transportation
To reach Kistani Fortress using public transportation, start by taking a local minibus (marshrutka) from Khevsureti to Shatili. The marshrutkas typically leave from the central bus station in Khevsureti. The fare is usually around 5 GEL. Once you arrive in Shatili, you can either walk for about 10 km to Biso or find a local taxi to take you there. Taxis may charge around 15-20 GEL. From Biso, you will need to hire a local guide or taxi to take you to Kistani Fortress, which is approximately a 15-20 minute drive.
Hiking
For adventurous travelers, hiking from Biso to Kistani Fortress is a fantastic option. From the village of Biso, take the path that leads uphill towards the fortress. The hike is approximately 2.5 km and can take around 1-1.5 hours depending on your pace. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry water. The views along the way are stunning, offering a great opportunity for photography.
