Nestled in the village of Sadmeli, in the Ambrolauri district of the Racha region, Margvelidze Winery & Guesthouse offers an authentic taste of Georgian wine culture. This family-run establishment, overseen by Mariam and her grandfather, welcomes visitors with its two-century-old cellar and a traditional Rachuli house dating back to 1925, now serving as a guesthouse. The Margvelidze family's winemaking tradition dates back to the 19th century, evolving into a full-fledged business in 2014. Today, the winery produces natural wines using organically grown grapes, fermented and aged in traditional Qvevri (clay vessels) for six months. The winery cultivates local grape varieties such as Saperavi, Kudurouli, Alexsandrouli, Mujuretuli, Tsolikouri and Rchuli Tetra. Guests can savor these wines paired with traditional Rachuli dishes in an authentic ethnic ambiance. The guesthouse offers seven rooms, blending old-world charm with modern comforts. Visitors can also purchase homemade delicacies such as Chireuli, jams, Tklapi and Rachuli ham on-site. Mariam and her grandfather are eager to share the rich history of their family and the traditional art of winemaking and viticulture with guests, providing English-speaking guidance.
