If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Akhaltsikhe. Take the E60 highway heading southwest towards Vardzia. After approximately 30 kilometers, you will see the signs for Vardzia. Follow these signs, and continue for an additional 10 kilometers until you reach the entrance of the site, located at coordinates 41.3810511, 43.284247. There is a parking area available for visitors. Note that there may be a small entrance fee to access the site.
Public Transportation
To reach Vardzia using public transportation, start from Akhaltsikhe bus station. You can catch a marshrutka (minibus) heading to Aspindza, which typically departs every hour. The ride takes about 40 minutes. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Vardzia stop. From there, it's about a 10-minute walk to the entrance of Vardzia. Be sure to check the marshrutka schedule in advance, as services may vary.
Taxi
Another option is to take a taxi from Akhaltsikhe to Vardzia. This is a more direct and convenient method, especially for groups or those with luggage. You can negotiate a fare, which should typically range between 30-50 GEL for a one-way trip. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes. Make sure to agree on the price before starting your ride.
