Mushthaid Garden: Tbilisi's Historic Green Escape

Mushthaid Garden, nestled in the heart of Tbilisi, is a captivating blend of history and recreation. Established between the 1830s and 1840s by Mir-Fatah-Agha, a high-ranking Shia Muslim religious leader who fled from Iran to Tbilisi, the garden's origins are rooted in Persian heritage. According to legend, Mir-Fatah-Agha chose Tbilisi because of his love for his Georgian wife, who is buried in the garden. Initially a private garden, it was transformed into a public recreation center in 1858. Over the years, Mushthaid Garden has become a beloved spot for locals and tourists alike, offering a tranquil escape from the bustling city. The garden has hosted significant events, including the first hot air balloon flight in the Caucasus in 1882. In 1935, it became home to one of the world's first children's railways, adding to its historical significance. Today, Mushthaid Garden occupies approximately 110,000 square meters and features a variety of attractions. Visitors can explore the alley of relict Zelkova trees, enjoy amusement rides, and relax in the open-air theater and cafes. The State Silk Museum, housed in the former Caucasian silkworm rearing station, is also located within the garden.
