Car
From Vardzia, head northeast on the local road (also referred to as the Mtkvari River road). Continue for about 10 kilometers until you reach the junction with the main E117 highway. Turn right onto the E117 and proceed for approximately 5 kilometers. Look for the signs indicating the Mtkvari Canyon, and turn left onto a smaller road leading to the canyon. Follow this road for another 5 kilometers, and you will arrive at the Mtkvari Canyon. Parking is available near the canyon entrance.

From Vardzia, you can take a minibus (marshrutka) heading towards Apnia. The marshrutkas usually depart from the central area of Vardzia. Ensure you ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop for Mtkvari Canyon, which is around 15 kilometers away. The fare is generally inexpensive, around 2-3 GEL. Once you are dropped off, you may need to walk approximately 1 kilometer to reach the canyon entrance. Be sure to check the return schedule for marshrutkas back to Vardzia.
