Keltendorf Gabreta is an archaeological experience park located in Ringelai, in the heart of the Bavarian Forest. The park's name, Gabreta, is derived from the ancient name for the Bavarian-Bohemian Forest region. Opened in 1998, this living museum offers visitors an immersive journey into the world of the Celts, showcasing reconstructed houses based on original floor plans dating from 1200 BC to the Roman era. Visitors can explore various facets of Celtic life, from agriculture and animal husbandry to craftsmanship. The park features demonstrations of ancient techniques like pottery, weaving, and metalworking, with opportunities for hands-on participation. Traditional Celtic festivals are celebrated throughout the year, and a restaurant and beer garden offer Celtic-Bavarian-Bohemian cuisine. Rare breeds of ancient domestic animals also populate the village. Keltendorf Gabreta was the vision of Paul Freund, a local archaeologist whose discoveries of Celtic artifacts led to the park's creation. Freund's passion for the region's history and his dedication to preserving its heritage are evident throughout the park. Today, Keltendorf Gabreta continues to offer an engaging and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
