Filmmuseum Potsdam: A Journey Through German Cinema

Located in the heart of Potsdam, the Filmmuseum Potsdam offers an immersive experience into the world of German cinema, with a spotlight on the legendary Babelsberg Studios. Housed in the historic Marstall, the former royal stables of the Prussian kings, the museum itself is a beautiful baroque building with a rich history, dating back to 1685. The museum's permanent exhibition, "Dream Factory - 100 Years of Film in Babelsberg," takes visitors on a journey through the filmmaking process, from the initial idea to the premiere. Interactive exhibits allow guests to experience what it's like to participate in a casting call, edit a film, or even sing with the iconic German singer Zarah Leander. Original props, costumes, and film clips from famous Babelsberg productions are also on display. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Filmmuseum Potsdam hosts rotating special exhibitions on various film and media topics, showcasing the works of international acting legends. The museum's cinema offers daily film screenings, including international art house films, retrospectives, and silent movies accompanied by live organ music on the historical Welte cinema organ. The museum also features a shop where visitors can purchase books, posters, and other film-related souvenirs.
