Discover more about Invalidenpark

Invalidenpark, situated on Invalidenstraße in the Mitte district, provides a serene escape from the city's hustle. This 2.5-acre park evolved from a military hospital garden established in the early 18th century. The park was originally built in 1748 to house wounded soldiers from Prussian wars. The original Invalidenpark, created in 1843 with the Invaliden Column and the Gnadenkirche, was destroyed during World War II. For decades during Berlin's division, the area was neglected. The redesign of Invalidenpark between 1992 and 1998 by French landscape architect Christophe Girot incorporated elements of the square's original design. A prominent feature is a large water basin (50m x 62m) with a sculptural wall and waterfall. The park also features a granite sculpture that reflects Berlin's artistic spirit and resilience. The sculpture in the water basin is a reminder of the Gnadenkirche and the Berlin Wall. Today, Invalidenpark is a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists alike. Visitors can stroll along winding paths, relax on benches, and enjoy the park's peaceful atmosphere. The park also hosts events, including art exhibitions and community gatherings. Nearby attractions include Museum Island, Berlin Cathedral, and Hackescher Markt.
