Discover more about Museum Knoblauchhaus

The Museum Knoblauchhaus offers a captivating glimpse into the world of a prominent Berlin merchant family during the Biedermeier period (1815-1848). Located in the heart of the Nikolaiviertel, this carefully restored 18th-century house was home to the Knoblauch family for over 170 years and served as both their residence and place of business. Inside, visitors can explore authentically furnished rooms that reflect the family's daily life, social activities, and cultural interests. The exhibits feature original furniture, everyday objects, and family documents that provide insights into the Biedermeier era's social, economic, and political landscape. Highlights include a rare musical clock from 1797, a living room in Biedermeier style, and a library showcasing the achievements of Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Knoblauch. A re-created "Raffael-Kabinett" displays copper engravings that would have been on display in 1835. The museum also highlights the Knoblauch family's connections to prominent figures such as architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel and scholars Wilhelm and Alexander von Humboldt. The "Berlin Salon" exhibition area is dedicated to these relationships. Since opening as a museum in 1989, the Knoblauchhaus has offered visitors a unique opportunity to experience Berlin's history and culture through the lens of a single family.
