THE WALL - asisi Panorama: A Journey Through Divided Berlin
Step back in time to divided Berlin: An immersive 360° panorama recreating life in the shadow of the Wall. A powerful and moving historical experience.
THE WALL - asisi Panorama offers a unique and immersive experience, transporting visitors back to a divided Berlin in the 1980s. Created by artist Yadegar Asisi, this 360° panorama depicts a fictitious autumn day in Kreuzberg, West Berlin, right next to the Berlin Wall. From a 4-meter-high platform, visitors can observe the detailed scenes of everyday life. The panorama showcases dilapidated buildings, punks, tourists, and border guards, offering a realistic view of how normal and cruel life was in the Wall's shadow. The installation is accompanied by an emotive soundscape of music, street noise, and soundbites from pivotal moments in the Wall's history, such as JFK's iconic “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech. The exhibition also includes a contemporary witness photo exhibition with around 80 private photos of Berliners, providing personal insights into the construction, division, and fall of the Wall. Sketches and drawings by Asisi offer a glimpse into the creation process of the panorama. Additionally, films, including “On Both Sides of the Wall,” provide Asisi's perspective on the division and his life in both the GDR and FRG. Located near Checkpoint Charlie, THE WALL - asisi Panorama provides a comprehensive understanding of Berlin's history during the Cold War. It's a powerful and moving experience that leaves a lasting impression on visitors.
