Standing tall with its stunning Gothic architecture, the cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of the city. Visitors can embark on the 'Turmbesteigung' or tower ascent, which involves climbing 533 steps to reach the viewing platform. The journey up the tower is not only a test of stamina but also a rewarding adventure that reveals awe-inspiring views of Cologne and the surrounding Rhine River. The climb is steep, but each level offers unique perspectives of the intricate stonework and stained glass windows that adorn the cathedral's interior. At the top, tourists are greeted with panoramic vistas of the city, where they can see landmarks such as the Rhine River, the Hohenzollern Bridge, and vibrant city life below. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon, when the light casts a beautiful glow over the city. The Kölner Dom is accessible year-round, but during peak tourist seasons, be prepared for crowds, especially on weekends.
