Walking
If you are starting from the Freiburg city center, head towards the main train station (Freiburg Hauptbahnhof). From the station, walk in the direction of the city center, following the signs to 'Zentrum' or 'Altstadt'. Continue straight along Bahnhofstraße until you reach the large intersection at Kaiser-Joseph-Straße. Turn left onto Kaiser-Joseph-Straße, a pedestrian-friendly street filled with shops and cafes. Walk straight until you reach the end of the street where you will see the beautiful Martinstor gate. Continue through the gate and into the old town, known as the Altstadt. From here, follow the signs towards Schlossberg, which is a large hill to the southeast of the city center.

Hiking
Once you reach the base of Schlossberg, look for the marked hiking trails that lead to the Aussichtsturm (viewing tower). The trails are well-signposted, and you can choose between several paths that vary in difficulty. A popular route is to take the path that starts at the bottom of the hill near the Schlossberg restaurant. This path winds upwards through the forest and takes approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on your pace. Enjoy the scenic views along the way and follow the signs indicating 'Aussichtsturm' until you arrive at the tower.

Public Transportation
If you prefer to take public transportation, you can catch a tram from the city center. Board tram line 2 or 3 at the 'Freiburg Stadtmitte' station, heading towards 'Zähringen' or 'Littenweiler'. Get off at the 'Schlossbergbahn' stop. From there, you can either walk up to the viewpoint via the hiking paths or take the Schlossbergbahn funicular railway to the top, which offers a scenic ride. The viewing tower is a short walk from the funicular station.
