Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Cable Car
The most scenic and accessible final approach to Festungspark Ehrenbreitstein is via the Koblenz cable car (Seilbahn Koblenz). From the valley station (Talstation) located on Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer near the Deutsches Eck, take a ride offering panoramic views of the Rhine and Moselle confluence. A round-trip cable car ticket costs approximately €15.50 for adults. A combined ticket including fortress entrance is around €21.90. The cable car is fully accessible. Operating hours vary seasonally, but typically run from 10:00 to at least 19:00. Check the official website (seilbahn-koblenz.de) for the most up-to-date schedule. Dogs are allowed on the cable car for a fee of €4 for a round trip.
Public Transport & Fortress Lift
Alternatively, from Koblenz Hauptbahnhof (main train station), take a train to Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein station (€6-€9). From there, it's about a 10-minute walk to the base of the fortress lift (Festungsaufzug). The fortress lift provides a direct, barrier-free ascent to the 'Festung lift/Youth hostel' entrance. Check www.koveb.de/festungsaufzug for operating hours. A single ride on the fortress lift costs around €2. The bus lines that go to the 'Fortress lift/Youth hostel' stop or to 'Ehrenbreitstein train station' are also viable options.
Driving
If driving, navigate to Greiffenklaustrasse, 56077 Koblenz. Limited paid parking is available near the fortress entrance. Parking costs €0.60 per hour with a valid fortress ticket. A day ticket (24 hours) costs €20. Note that parking is limited, especially during peak season and events. Consider using the WTS parking lot (former Fritsch barracks), Niederberger Höhe, and walking approximately 1.1 km to the entrance.
